On September 3rd, 2015, Delaware Probation and Parole Officer Josh Churchill, was recognized by the Delaware State Police for his outstanding service during an off-duty incident.

Officer Churchill was present with a Delaware State Police commemorative coin by Colonel Nathaniel McQueen Jr., and Major Robert C. Hawkins. Congratulations Josh on a job well done! Below is a brief summary of the events. "Probation Officer Joshua Churchill was off duty on 08/16/2015, when he observed a vehicle stuck in a ditch on Roxana Rd. He was slowing to check on the vehicles operator when he witnessed the vehicle free itself from the ditch and begin driving through a cornfield. The vehicle continued approximately 100' through the cornfield before impacting a large tax ditch. Josh walked through the cornfield to check on the operator who was still seated in the vehicle with her windows shut. She was not responding to him even after he had identified himself as an off-duty officer. Josh thought she may have been having some sort of medical episode or that she was impaired on drugs or alcohol. He called Suscom to report the incident and requested they send EMS to check on her.EMS arrived on scene and found the operator was a diabetic with a blood sugar level of 28. EMS advised me that the normal blood sugar levels are within 80-100 and that without attention, the operator could have sustained further injury or death. The positioning of the vehicle in the ditch with high corn surrounding it made it very difficult to see from the roadway. If Josh had not taken his time to check on the operator, her outcome could have been much worse or even fatal. I wanted to share his outstanding efforts in an off-duty capacity and let you know that he likely saved a life today."
