Wilmington- Delaware Probation and Parole assisted by Delaware State Police in an operation leading to the arrest of a 27 year old Wilmington man after a search of his residence revealed a loaded handgun and heroin.
On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, Delaware Probation and Parole Officers were conducting an Administrative search on Chaz A. Smith, a level 2 probationer, when they found a loaded .40 caliber handgun and 52 bags of heroin. Probation Officers then contacted the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force (G.T.F. a joint task force of Delaware Probation & Parole and Delaware State Police) to help process new criminal charges on Smith. Smith was taken to DSP Troop 2 where he was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Possession of Heroin, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned at JP Court 20 and issued a $16,500.00 secured bail. He was then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an Administrative Warrant issued by the Division of Probation and Parole.
