Dover- A Delaware Probation and Parole officer was treated and released from Kent General Hospital after sustaining minor injuries during an arrest on David Paitsel Jr (36). Paitsel, a violent offender, who is currently serving probation for Assault 2nd, as well as 1st Degree Robbery and Aggravated Menacing which stemmed from his beating of a 36-year-old man before stealing his belongings outside Dover Downs.
On Wednesday at approximately 4:40 p.m., while being arrested for violation of probation, Paitsel began having medical issues, and officers determined he needed to be transported to Kent General Hospital for evaluation and treatment. To ensure the safety of all those involved EMTs on scene asked Probation and Parole officers to accompany them in the transport vehicle.
According to the Department of Corrections during transport, "Paitsel was being asked questions by medical personnel, he became agitated and combative. Mr. Paitsel lunged forward out of the stretcher and attempted to choke himself with his hands as well as cords attached to medical machines. The officers were able to restrain him and maintain his safety until the ambulance arrived at the hospital. After arriving at the hospital, Mr. Paitsel again became aggressive and needed to be restrained in order to be examined by a doctor." It was during this second altercation that Paitsel injured one of the probation officers, causing a laceration to the officer. The wounded officer was treated and released from Kent General Hospital.
After being cleared by physicians, Paitsel was transported to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna where he is being held pending new charges for Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, as well as a pending violation of probation.
