Delaware Probation and Parole and New Castle County Police Joint Task Force have arrested probationer, Malik Brown, 28, Newark, for resisting arrest and drug offenses in the community of Wellington Woods.

Newark- On Wednesday, June 14th at approximately 10:00 a.m., The New Castle County Safe Streets Unit, a joint unit consisting of Delaware Probation and Parole Officers and detectives from New Castle County Police Department, received information that a man later identified as Malik Brown was selling drugs in the community of Wellington Woods. After investigating information, Probation Officers were able to positively identify the subject as Malik Brown, an active probationer. 

Safe Street Officers then attempted a traffic stop on Brown who was operating a red Dodge sedan. Brown proceeded to flee in the sedan, but Safe Streets Officers quickly located the vehicle in the community of Wellington Woods. Brown then fled the scene on foot, while abandoning his 5-year-old son in the vehicle. After a brief foot pursuit, Brown was taken into custody. Brown's son was then checked out by Safe Street Officers and appeared to be unharmed and did not require medical attention.

During the foot pursuit, Brown was observed by officers discarding 169 capsules of Heroin. Delaware Probation and Parole Officers then conducted a properly approved administrative search of Brown’s reported residence. Their Probation Officers were able to locate 221 capsules of heroin and $2,948.00 in suspected illegal narcotic sale proceeds.

Brown has been charged with Violation of Probation, Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possession of Heroin in a Tier 2 quantity, Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal , 2 counts Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest, Driving Without a License, Aggressive Driving, Failure to Use Turn Signal, Failure to Stop at a Red Light and Unreasonable Speed .

Brown was arraigned and committed to Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post a $25,000.00 secured bond.
